Mr. Cavallaro was born in New Haven, Connecticut, attended New Haven Public schools, graduating from Hillhouse High School. Richard went to Southern Connecticut State University, where after one year he determined to join the Army. After three years in the army, which included a 16 month tour of duty in Vietnam, he came home to finish my bachelor of Arts degree at the University of New Haven. Mr. Cavallaro received a master’s degree in Education from the Univ. of Bridgeport. Richard moved on to receive his sixth year level in administration from Southern Connecticut State University. In January 1978 he started teaching Social Studies at Wilcox Technical High School in Meriden, CT. Richard taught there for 16 years before he was appointed to his first administrative position as Assistant Principal at Eli Whitney Technical High School in Hamden, CT. Three years later he accepted his first Principal’s position at Norwich Technical High School in Norwich, CT. During his tenure as Principal for Norwich Tech he was elected Vice-President of the AFSA local 61 union. Richard stayed in Norwich for three years and then was asked to return and become Principal at Wilcox Technical High School in Meriden, CT. It felt like he was going home. Mr. Cavallaro stayed at Wilcox for twelve years were during that time he was elected President of the AFSA local 61. In 2010 he was transferred to Bullard Havens Technical High School in Bridgeport, CT, where he is presently assigned as Principal and was recently re-elected as the President of the AFSA local 61. Lastly, in November 2012 he joined CFSA’s GEB as their new secretary.
